MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS
The Mathematics Unit concentrates on aspects of numerical methods, solid mechanics, statistics and operational research. Theoretical studies of rational approximation, systems of linear equations and convergence acceleration inform the work of the group as a whole, and applied research in piezoelectric and elastic cracks, rubber bush mountings and numerical stress evaluation.
The Mathematics Unit consists of both full-time members of staff and staff in the School of Informatics with specialist mathematical expertise. We currently provide teaching from Foundation to Masters level, both complete modules and mathematical input to modules taught across the University on a range of topics including, statistics, discrete maths, and modelling.
