Microcomputer Music Research Unit (MMRU)
The main research objective of the MMRU is the application of computers and computing techniques to explore the nature of musical instrument sound and its production by synthetic means.
A by-product of this work has been the continuing evolution of commercially-usable musical instrument simulators - specifically, the Bradford Musical Instrument Simulator (BMIS) and its successor Bradford Enhanced Synthesis Technology (BEST). A new generation of BEST (BEST2) is under development (see What's New), and research continues into hybrid organs (see Projects).
Over 2500 instruments based on Bradford technology (mostly simulating classical organs) have been sold by different companies across all five continents.
The Head of the MMRU is Dr. Peter Comerford.
