COURSE INTRODUCTION

Multimedia Computing traces the rapid growth in the development and application of multimedia technology. Many computers now come equipped with capabilities for handling video, audio and speech in addition to graphics and text. Multimedia facilities are increasingly being exploited in such diverse fields as education, engineering, entertainment, communications, art, and scientific research. There is a need for graduates who can understand, design, support and apply such systems and their applications software.

Our course is taught jointly with the University's Electronic Imaging and Media Communications (EIMC) Department. It aims to provide a broad coverage of the engineering, artistic and social aspects of multimedia systems and their applications. Particular emphasis is given to sound engineering methodology, software development, information systems and human-computer interaction, in addition to multimedia technology.

It is possible to do the course either as a three-year course, or as a four-year sandwich course which includes an industry placement.
