AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The general aim of the course is to provide education of recognised quality that reflects staff expertise and which offers students flexibility of choice. Student based learning and seminars will provide life long skills for a dynamic and changing world.

The new M.Sc. in Mobile Applications, in particular, seeks to:

  • Respond to current academic challenges provided by mobile and embedded devices and meet commercial needs for staff who are able to understand and think strategically about future developments in this area.

  • Provide a high academic quality-of-service to students, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of computing and mobile applications.

  • Enable students to equip themselves with knowledge, skills and understanding, at an advanced level within the chosen field of study.
LEARNING OUTCOMES.

On successful completion of the MSc. in Mobile Applications you will be able to achieve mastery of applications targeted at existing and yet to emerge devices by demonstrating:

  • Systematic Knowledge and Understanding and a critical awareness at advanced level, of core computing, networking and application development subjects including device technologies, software systems & development; detailed understanding of the differences between traditional applications and mobile applications through recognition of the influence of mobility on system design and evaluation, and application development particularly the human computer interface and display technologies; a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to research in mobile computing and applications.

  • Discipline Specific Skills, showing: originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry in Mobile Computing and Digital Media are used to create and interpret knowledge in the discipline; the ability to design, implement, and evaluate mobile applications.

  • Personal and Transferable Skills necessary for employment requiring: the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility; decision-making in complex and unpredictable situations; and the independent learning ability required for continuing professional development.
