THEORETICAL GROUNDING
The Department of Computing is driving the revolution in computer applications in communications, in business, in health and in science. Its research and taught courses reflect the exciting and challenging career opportunities available for postgraduates in computer science. The Department is focused to deliver the highest quality programmes with new equipment regularly updated to keep students at the leading edge of computer applications. All of our taught course programmes have accreditation from the British Computer Society. We also offer the MSc Computing course for those who have a first degree in another discipline.
PART-TIME COURSES

The Department is pleased to announce that many* of our postgraduate courses are now available as two-year part-time options for home/UK based students. Course structures vary depending on the course in question and the study programme required. For further details about studying part-time on one of our postgraduate courses please contact us. (*Does not include MSc Informatics by Research.)

POSTGRADUATE BURSARIES (2008 ENTRY)

The University of Bradford has introduced a Postgraduate Bursary of £500 for 2008/2009. To be eligible you must:

  • Be from the UK or EU
  • Be on a full-time taught postgraduate programme and paying your own fees
  • Have graduated from your undergraduate degree programme in the last 3 years
  • Have received support towards your fees from your Local Authority or the Student Loans Company in your final year of undergraduate study at you previous university — and be able to prove this with a financial support notification letter.

Bursaries will be paid in March provided that you are still in attendance and progressing satisfactorily on your course.

To apply: after you have started your course, come to The Hub with your last financial support notification letter from your undergraduate study – you will be required to fill in a short application form.

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Our MSc in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Games is about the techniques needed to create artificial game playing agents and non-player characters. Students will learn advanced techniques in Artificial Intelligence.
  • Our Mobile Applications MSc aims to train graduates to develop applications for the new generations of mobile and ubiquitous systems.
  • MSc in Internet, Computer and System Security aims to meet the needs for advanced study in this area.
  • Our MSc in Computing and Performance Engineering (now Networks and Performance Engineering) was the first of its kind anywhere in the world.
  • For those looking for a New Route PhD we recommend a route of one of our range of specialised MSc programmes followed by MPhil/PhD registration to give a four year route to a PhD combining taught and research elements.
  • The Department's MSc Computing course was established over 25 years ago and has built a deserved reputation with industry and government bodies for providing excellent graduates moving to Computing from other disciplines.
  • Our long-standing MSc Software Engineering course is an advanced course providing students who already possess a thorough grounding in the principles of computing with knowledge of current best practice in the principles and methods of software engineering.
  • Our MSc in Mobile Computing looks at Third Generation (3G) Mobile Systems and current 4G principles.
  • We have just added new MSc courses in Mobile Applications, Internet, Computer & System Security and Forensic Computing.
  • The new MSc Informatics by Research initiative from the School of Informatics allows students to obtain the qualification of MSc using a combination of taught modules and a substantial research-based project.
  • The Department has its own network based on powerful servers running UNIX, accessed by clusters of PC workstations running Microsoft and Linux operating systems. The system can also be accessed from across the campus and beyond.
