Dr Dimitris Rigas pursued a postgraduate career first in the University of Wales at Aberystwyth (where an MPhil in Computer Science was obtained) and later at Loughborough University (where a PhD in Computer Science was obtained). On completion of his PhD, Dr Rigas was appointed as a research assistant (part-time) at Loughborough University, lecturer in Information Management at Liverpool John Moores University and later at the University of Huddersfield and University of Hull.

In 2000, Dr Rigas was appointed Senior Lecturer in Computing at the University of Bradford. At the University of Bradford, Dr Rigas served a number of administrative and management roles within the School including being the Founding Director of Academic Programmes and Development, Founding Director of Summer School in Information Engineering, interim Head of Intelligent Information Systems Research Group submitted to the RAE 2001 (now known as Intelligent Quantum Information Systems Research Group).

Dr Rigas served and currently serves as an external supervisor for several research projects. Dr Rigas welcomes external collaboration for external supervision.
