1969-1972 Secondary schooling in Freiburg, Germany.
1972 Abitur (The German equivalent of A-levels) in Freiburg.
1972-1977 Study of Mathematics, Physics and Business Studies (BWL) at Freiburg University, Germany.
1977 First degree 'Diplommathematiker' in Mathematics at Freiburg University; 'sehr gut' (top grade in all subjects).
1977-1980 Postgraduate research work in Probability and Statistics at Freiburg University.
1980 Doctoral degree 'Dr. rer. nat.' in Mathematics at Freiburg University; 'cum laude'.
